Solutions in fiber-reinforced composites
The reinforcement of plastics with high-tensile fibres makes them to extrem powerful structure materials.

Optimal properties are reached by directional placement of continuous carbon, glas or armid fibres. Due to their outstanding mechanical properties and the low density, fibre reinforced plastics are excellent appropriate for lightweight applications. This formerly exotic materials have their seeds in the aerospace industrie.

Because of new and advanced design and manufacturing technologies, and not least becaus of decreasing material costs, FRP enter new fields like mechanical engineering, fine egineering and automotive engineering. Especially the application at key components can improve the deciding characteristics of the whole engineering. By take advatages of FRP and using the right technolgie (specific for each case of application), the following benefits could be reached:

  • Increase of strength and stiffness
  • Massreduction
  • Decrease of the thermal expansion
  • Improvement of the temperatur and chemical resistance
  • Increase of the design range
  • Improvement of the electrical and magnetic properties
  • Decrease of the mould and manufacturing costs

The Institut für Konstruktion und Verbundbauweisen e.V. was found in 1994 as an affiliated institut of the Chemnitz University of Technologie. Currently 11 employees are engaged.
The Institute ist situated in the Technologie Centrum Chemnitz (TCC). The laboratory and manufacturing area contains about 600 m² in addition to the offices.

The focus of the non-profit institution is on the transfer of new technolgies from research to industrie. Further the whole range of engineering (design, anlysis, simulation), production prearrangement and material and component testing for FRP parts can be offered. On the basis of a good market knowledge an the high scientific standard, we are able to provide innovative and sophisticated products for our clients.
